MOTORCICLYNG RIDES IN NORTHERN SPAIN

My name is Jaime Rodríguez, and I am the owner of the two well established brands, GMR Summer Camps, and Grupo Mundo En Red, two businesses dedicated to develop summer camps with native english teachers in Spain, and language courses abroad.

One of my passions is the motorbikes world, with 30 years of experience at my 41, riding all kind of motorbikes, and being the owners of one of the most beautiful rural premises in the mountains of León, I couldn’t resist the temptation of organizing rides for british people. I was amazed of seeing so many of you riding your motorbikes, when I ride around the area where we are, at the León mountains. It’s very clear the place is already known by Brits, and is very close from the ferryport too.

The easiness to get here from the UK on the Ferry to Santander from the Brittany Ferries makes it very easy.

Now, I have designed 8 rides, to cover 8 different days for now, but the chances and unlimited to go in some other directions. I will keep designing more rides, as the place is so big and plenty of empty roads to enjoy the motorbike.

The 8 options you can see try to fill in 4 of the cases, a full day of riding, with a stop in the middle to enjoy some spanish selected tasty meal in a selected gorgeous place. The other 4 routes mean a half day riding, with a stop in a typical amenity of the area.

Motorbike touring in Spain from Santander

From the Brittany Ferries' arrival port of Santander in northern Spain your riding options are virtually unlimited. And in a country that is more than double the size of Britain but with a significantly lower population, there should be very little to get in your way.

An excellent network of road links allows you to head off quickly in whatever direction you fancy; not that you have to travel very far for your first taste of truly wonderful scenery.

The trip to our place from the Ferry takes less than 3 hours, riding through beautiful places, to start with a real taste of what the area looks like. Stunning!

Mountain magic

Just outside of Santander, to the west and spanning the regions of Cantabria and Asturias, is the spectacular Picos de Europa National Park with 300 square miles of amazing natural beauty. Dramatic rocky peaks rise up over 8,000 feet, while the vast areas of lush green surrounding countryside is home to all kinds of rare and endangered wildlife including the European brown bear.

HOW TO GET HERE

We are located in the beautiful “Central Mountains” of León, 240 Km away from Santander. The village is called “Robledo de Fenar”, and is a small place with 30 to 100 (summer) of population.

The accommodation provided is a complex of wooden cabins ensuite all of them, with bunk style beds, and we also provide single and double bedrooms in a few B&B rural houses around.

There are excellent road links to both Portsmouth and Santander with easy access to the motorway for a convenient fast route to and from the ports. There are two sailings from Portsmouth to Santander each week departing late afternoon on Tuesdays and at around midday on Wednesdays. Que vienen los moteros ingleses!!

Este verano y principio de otoño, cuando estaba diseñando las preciosas rutas en moto que tenemos anunciadas en la web de www.fenaractivo.com, y me recorría los miles de kilómetros de carreteras que aparecen marcadas en los mapas que hemos puesto en la web con los recorridos, me quedé un tanto sorprendido por la cantidad de moteros británicos que me cruzaba o adelantaba en el recorrido. Podría deciros sin exagerar, que el 70% de absolutamente todas las matrículas de moto que vi en esas salidas, eran de las Islas Británicas, algunos irlandeses, pero casi todos como imaginaréis, ingleses.

Entre las Rutas mototurísticas que tenemos diseñadas (salimos siempre desde nuestras instalaciones de Robledo de Fenar), hay 4 rutas de recorrido largo o de día completo digamos, y otras 4 de medio día sin alejarnos tanto, y en todas ellas mientras las inspeccionaba, los british aparecían por todos los lados. Algunos grupos de moteros con los que me cruzaba eran españoles, pero los menos.

Que tendrán las carreteras de la montaña que nos rodea que vienen los ingleses a rodarlas con sus motrancas? Pues no se si os daréis cuenta los que no las conocéis, pero para la moto, son algo impresionante!! Vayas en la dirección que vayas, hacia el Noroste, Norte, Nordeste, e incluso sur en algunos tramos desde donde estamos, no hay mejor sitio en toda España para hacer rutas mototurísticas.

Así que nada, voy a ponerme a preparar un programa de rutas para los British, con llegada al puerto de Santander en el Ferry que sale de Plymouth o Porstmouth, y a ver si llenamos esto de ingleses, que parece que los españoles se les convirtió la sangre en casera dentro de las venas para esto de la moto!

Fines de semana de Esquí para grupos

Ya hemos hablado de los programas de Semanas Blancas con Inglés (Con nuestros profesores de inglés nativos), que organizamos desde la temporada pasada en nuestras instalaciones de la montaña de León, que con tanto éxito hemos llevado a cabo con tres colegios, de Palencia, Madrid y Galicia en 2010-2011.

Pero... ¿y si se quiere esquiar en el fin de semana? la opción fuera de periodo curricular queda abierta a grupos de todo tipo, no solo de colegios, siempre mayores de 20 personas, a unos precios muy asequibles, en nuestras instalaciones de León.

Animense a conocer la montaña Astur-leonesa, y sus estaciones de Esquí cercanas, pasando un fin de semana en nuestras coquetas instalaciones de la montaña central de León.

Llega la nieve y pronto los coles a esquiar

Hoy al entrar en la web de la estación de esquí de San Isidro, ya hemos podido ver las primeras nieves cubriendo casi toda la zona de Cebolledo de la estación, y con ello nos empieza a entrar el gusanillo de esquiar de nuevo este invierno.

Tras la grata experiencia de la temporada pasada, con los tres colegios que vinieron a pasar la semana del "Snow Week" en León, ya miramos a la temporada que viene, con algunos colegios más este año que se animan con este programa que les ofrecemos, pionero en España (aunque ya hemos visto que como suele ser, se nos copia rápido, siempre innovando y siendo copiados), y ellos nos llena de satisfacción.

Estos programas combinan la práctica con curso de esquí en las estaciones cercanas, con la convivencia con nuestros profesores de inglés nativos las 24 horas del programa, animando las tardes y noches con su gran experiencia en actividades típicas de campamentos, y compartiendo además el día en la estación de esquí con nosotros, es decir, 24 horas de convivencia en inglés, en nuestro maravilloso entorno de la montaña de León.

Esperamos que todos los coles que se planteen las semanas blancas en invierno, les guste esta nueva idea que desde 2011 nos está dando estupendos resultados.
